It's amazing what a taxidermist can fix.
I hit a bear low in the front leg and just about blew off that leg. There was just a thin piece of hide holding the leg on when I took it to the a taxidermist together rugged. The rug turned out great and you cant see the sewing. There was also a big whole fro a exit in the side behind the ribs that you cant see.

the bear turned out great!! looks like it was quiet a bit of work. I know where I'm taking my animal if i ever get a Taxidermy done..

HOLY CRAP MICHELLE! That turned out great! I tried looking at the before and after of the stitch work and i have no idea how you came up with the before and after...BUT IT IS AMAZING!

Theres a reason why your a great taxidermist and its because you can pull stuff like this off!

I know one thing... If I ever kill a bear with a 155mm artillery shell, Mich is doin' the rug...

And I have never skinned anything, so perhaps Michelle, I should just come live with you for the entirety of the season and somehow put you in my pack when I go hunting...  well except when I am just out with the dogs for Grouse....  Do you do Grouse mounts?  Hope you have good cable and a BIG HDD DVR....  Or do you maybe have a red phone hotline I could call if I manage to kill something I want caped/skinned/...  ?


In seriousness though - OMFG that is a gorgeous rug.  I only put bear (& Cougar) tags on mine in case the stupidest bear/cougar on earth stumbles upon me in the woods and doesn't manage to kill and eat me.  I figure if I have to shoot a bear/cougar it means it was probably rabid for me to ever even see it AND *censored* I am taking it home with me.  In fact, that rug is so gorgeous it has me rethinking my "not hunting bear" intentions....  I, too, love the green edging.  Crap, now I want one....

I have never skinned a bear. It took me a few trys to get a buck caped right. I found is is best to just take my Taxidermist on hunting trips with me and have him do it right in the field.

Yeah you go ahead and do that.  Just keep in mind you also have to pay for the repairs!

Looks Great!

I skinned my first bear out last year for my cousin because he didnt have a clue.  I've skinned most everythig else so just went on line real quick and looked at a diagram and did my best. He hasn't got the rug back yet but I'm eager to see how it looks.  Hope it turns out as good as this one.  Great Job!

I think 4 of the most common mistakes I see when people skin out a Bear for a rug are;

1.  Cutting to low or to high across the chest when they are making the incision from one front paw to the other.

2.  Cutting from the back foot through the genitil area to the other back foot.  Instead of cutting from the back of the foot to the butt hole and than to the other back foot.

3.  Starting there incisiong on the legs from the side of the foot.  Start your incisiong from the back of the foot!

4.  Removing to much skin when they remove the male parts on bears.  This takes away from the flank area on rugs.  Don't cut big circles around them like your afraid to touch them.  For a Rug cut right up through the center of them  (For guys if you have to cross your legs while doing this it might help).  If your not sure if you want to do a Life Size cut to one side as close as you can.

I am only having it tanned, not a rug done.  I did have her flesh and turn it though.
