Late Achery Hunt Success
« on: September 11, 2024, 08:58:30 AM »
Just curious if you guys have any success late hunting on public land?

I've never late hunted before but it's so restrictive on areas you can hunt in Eastern Washington, that I'm wondering if it's even worth it? I would think all the deer would be long gone off the public land by that point and into private.

Thanks for your input

First it depends on what your idea of success is. For me time in the woods with friends and family is success.  If success is defined as harvesting an animal I think you can have success during any season if everything aligns. I know there is no chance of harvesting an animal if you aren’t in the woods.

There is lots of public land in eastern Washington, lots of opportunity, now hunting can be tough during any season. I’m sure if you get out there you will see deer, probably a legal deer and from there it is a gamble on whether it will all come together.

I only hunt late archery because that is what our group does. We always see deer, I don’t always harvest one.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Be careful to check the regs if you do the late archery hunt here in Ea. Wa.

You can't shoot does anymore in some of the units due to declining population.

I know. Very disappointing. We hunted a completely different location this month with zero success, in hopes of at least getting a doe. So much so, that we have to start planning for late hunt now.

I would say one of the best archery hunts left in eastern Washington is the late whitetail tag around mid November. Plenty of deer on public land at that time and a good chance of snow so deer are active throughout the day.
