2024 Tuna
« on: September 09, 2024, 09:22:20 PM »
Got out on a work trip out of Astoria yesterday with some guys on guided trip. Man… was it rough getting out there to the blue water.  Big rollers had the tuna tight lipped early in the day. We ended up trolling around in the swells until we’d hook up, toss out jigs and live bait to get the feeding frenzy going. Switch turned on about 1:30 and it was hot and heavy for the next 45 minutes. Pulled up and tried jigging for a couple halibut and had to head in to pull the crab pots. I ended up catching 6 really nice tuna on three different methods. Trolling, jigging and live bait. What a blast!! Can’t wait for next year!!

Nice job.  How many tuna did you guys get yesterday?   We fished the same area yesterday.

Ended up with 19 for the boat. It got better as the afternoon progressed. We should have stayed on the tuna grounds but a few of us wanted to see if we could get a halibut.

We went out last Tuesday out of Westport and got 32 between four guys on fly rods. Was a blast!

Sounds and looks like a great time! Did the halibut cooperate?
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

Went out w the Gold Rush yesterday out of Westport.  10 passengers, came back w 35 albacore on combo of trolling and live bait.  Decent number of hookups but seemed like tuna were down eating squid for big chunks of the day... fun day on the water though and a great crew.

We went out with Gordy Webster on Black Dogg Guide Service. Great Captain who works hard for his clients.

Yeah, with the big swells they were hanging low in the column. As the afternoon went on and the water calmed a little bit they moved up to play. So much fun!!

All rivers west out of Westport. Captain nick trolls and fishes with fly rods. We did just as well if not better than the gear boats. Insane amounts of fun. Those fish can run!!!
