Mt Spokane North A Successful Moose Hunters
« on: September 23, 2024, 07:23:11 PM »
Looking to chat with previous successful moose hunters in this area. What worked, what didn't, that kind of stuff. I was drawn for an Any Antlered Bull this year.

Congrats. I have the same tag and know another hunter that has one. Have you been over scouting yet?

Congrats to you too! I did make a trip over last weekend, went all the way around the area. Poked my nose into many possible spots and did see fresh tracks. Have not yet decided which spot to start. Have you gotten into the area?

Yes lots of the iep gates are shut but there is talk they may start opening some which will open up a ton of ground if they do. Be a lot harder hunt for sure with just what’s open now.

Are they closed to all motorized access?  We were over there a few years ago when my daughter had a youth tag and bought the permit.  Even when the gates were closed we were allowed to take an ATV/UTV and go around the gate.  I think it was a 50" max requirement?  We had a Yamaha Rhino at the time and it was tight but we were able to get around the gates.

Yes a lot of them have no motorized plaques on them right now. So walk in only.

Bummer!

When we were there they closed it except to ATVs because of the road conditions and liability.  Hopefully people weren't abusing it with the ATVs too and got it closed down....  :dunno:

Biggest advise I could give going into October is.
WATER SOURCE...
We have had like ten drops of rain in three months.
Big animals take big water. Even some year round springs have dried up this year.
Any hunting grounds, glassing spots,clear-cuts,roads, whatever that includes a water source is where I would look first.
