Got an email earlier today offering to let me get a refund minus a $50 fee. I'm holding out hope that I can still get the last week of the season in. The fire isn't in an area I planned to hunt anyway.

Was the refund offer just for your deer tag or was it for an elk tag as well?

I only have the deer tag. My email just talked about deer but I'd imagine elk tag holders would have the same offer.

I have a Salmon B tag and a 21A deer tag and I haven’t received any communications from IDFG. My guess is that 21A and 21 will be very crowded this year.

I've got the same exact tags!  I'll be traveling in menacing style, hunting out of a Forester.  Well, mostly parking it and backpacking in.  Crossing fingers for snow.

You must be one tough SOB, driving a Subaru into Idaho with Washington plates and hunting this country.

21 is closed at spring creek and north fork closed heading west from there. Finding deer in spots in 28 just a very limited area

I don't know about tough - I've definitely gotten the stink eye from a few people there in the past but haven't had any windows broken yet.  Kind of like hunting from the Forester - easy to backpack into places or run and gun sleeping in the back.  Believe it or not, my ground clearance is better than some of the newer base-trim trucks out there (F150, Dodge Ram).  Not to say I haven't gotten into situations I haven't wanted to be in...snow storms that have dumped a foot or a wind storm in a burn area to name a few.  The worst was when I only had a hand saw and a tow rope in 21 up near Long Tom and had to cut like 30 trees in a 5 mile section just to drive out of there.  The chainsaw has come ever since.

I’ve had a few of those long nights as well over there. If I see a forester I’ll say high to you next week. I’ll be headed east in about 6 hours.

In Northfork now, smoky, lotta hunters fron unit 28.  Gonna be a cluster.   We are camping as high as possible to get outa smoke butvwinter forecast  for next wed so may have to bail.

Fortunately the places I've been looking at aren't very close to the (new) burn zone, but it would be fun to run in to y'all - probably not too hard to figure out who I am... though I probably won't be by my vehicle very often, hopefully anyway.  Best luck to everyone out there!

Looks like they rescinded the Garden Fire closure area across the Salmon today. All of 21 should be open for business.
