Idaho Mule Deer Outlook
« on: October 08, 2024, 07:23:40 PM »
Like most of knew last year wasn’t very good for mule deer in Idaho and this year doesn’t look much better if your holding out for a trophy.

One thing I found interesting is how the mule deer hunter numbers were down 6% last year. Curious if that means they hunted whitetails instead or if that means the overall hunter numbers were down by 6%. We all know they keep hitting the max for out of state hunters so that means the locals aren’t heading to the field like they used to.

Mule deer numbers in units 6,7 & 9 seem super down.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

The any deer rifle seasons need to stop. Need to quit killing baby carriers but many don’t care on what they shoot fawns, does, you name it.

All the does I’ve seen have healthy twin fawns with them in my neck of the woods.

I hunt very close to those units and its the complete opposite where I am hunting. I know of at least 14-17 bucks in one area

:yeah:  Same for Cows. Buck Doe ratio where I hunt is about 1 to 1. The area can handle 10 times the Deer that are there now. Same area the Bull/Cow ratio is 1 to 3 and they just keep killing Cows even though their objective is 1 to 50
The mountains are calling and I must go

My area (very general description) is between Avery and the Montana boarder has been a ghost town for mule deer this year. Elk population is looking okay. I’m hoping the November hunt brings out more animals.

Only saw one Whitetail when I went thru there this summer.🤯

I dropped over to superior and came back on your side and up my way to avoid having to drive a nasty road for a survey not too long ago and saw quite a few.

Just read another article and now they are up to 5 cases of ocular disease in Mule deer over there. Odds might finally be going in my favor if the deer are going blind.
