Unit 269 moses coulee
« on: October 25, 2024, 10:49:35 AM »
I got drawn for the new late Muzzleloader any buck tag. It runs from November 25th- December 3rd. Is anyone familiar with this area. If so what quality should I expect. Plan to do alot of scouting before season starts. Any pics would be great.

So you’re the one!! Haha just kidding. Not a ton of public, some good pockets of deer if you can find them. Couple spots I know and consistently watch mature bucks in, a mile each direction you won’t find a deer but that spot will have 100+all winter.

I'm no expert....but that unit is not really known for "Quality".  I have hunted it quite a bit and spend time out driving the roads and yote hunting in the winter.  We see nice bucks.....but I have never seen a Majestic buck.  I'm not a big score junky, but the little I know about scores and that unit.....I wouldn't pass a mid 140's 4x4.

I'm sure others will chime in.  I'm also sure there are bigger deer in the unit.....which I have no doubt there are!!  It should be a fun hunt and like any other hunt, find what tickles your fancy and let that muzzy rip.

Hope you come back and share your success story.

Being from Wenatchee at least you wont have a long commute.  I think you will have a fun time.  Maybe get some chukars in the process.

I think 140 is a solid representation of the unit, there is usually a 160-170 or 2 that push in for the rut, but finding huntable ground is tough

15 years ago when they had that tag, there were some absolute studs in there. A buddy’s family had the tag and they killed a couple 170-180 bucks. Then the state got rid of the tag. I’m curious to see what it’s like now adays. The genetics are there I’m sure there’s some good ones around.

More and more this is looking to be a private property hunt. Just received a call from one of the largest ranch owners, who happens to be on the wdfw commission, and was told there is no hunting on their land. This might be hard just getting to hunt.

There is a pile of public land in to hunt....more than most want to walk in a weeks time.   :dunno:
