State Record non-typical whitetail in 1946

Came across this video today and it’s on display saying this was in “Elk County”, where there is no Elk county in WA. B&C site has this listed as “other location”. Anyone know where this buck came from or the story behind it?

Maybe the town of Elk in Spokane County? What a deer.

Those genetics still exist.  Just fewer than there used to be.

 Not sure where that one came from, but. the largest typical was taken in 1992 about 3 miles up Hunters/Springdale road by James Cartwright on his ranch called the Ponderosa.  Don't know him personally, but my nephew does and he's told him there are a couple in that 180-200 range still in the area.  Could be, all that area around his place is private property with great deer environment.

You could basically say that about that from chewelah to fruit land to Idaho border to south of Spokane

so what you are saying is the 40 acres my family bought near there is a good area to hunt lol

That area has changed a lot since we bought 25 years ago.  Seems every year a new house, trailer, or cabin pops up on ground we used to hunt.  Access has gotten harder as all the newer buyers post their property and older locals have become more reluctant to give permission.  Whitetail numbers have dropped dramatically , lower elevations are now showing more mule deer than whitetails. Actually don't see as many hunters as we used to, land access and lower deer numbers seem to have discouraged many, but sure see a lot more orv hunters in places that weren't heavily traveled before. Still some good hunting around, but takes more homework to find places to hunt and then actually find animals there.
