Spokane Chronograph for CDS Turret
« on: November 06, 2024, 06:59:54 PM »
Hi all!

I’m about to mount a vx6HD 3-18x44 scope on my Tikka to replace a 3-10x42.

I’m planning to use the custom dial system and know that I need to get an accurate velocity read with a chronograph.

I was wondering if anyone has a chronograph that I could borrow?

I’m a member at the Spokane Rifle Club and if anyone is a member that would be willing to meet and let me shoot a few rounds through your chronograph to get an accurate velocity read, I would be very thankful!

Happy to venmo you for your time. I just really don’t want to purchase a chronograph for this seemingly small use case.

Thank you!!

Drive out of town where you can take a 500 yard shot on level ground and use any app to calculate your speed…..

I.e. - Estimate speed, plug into app, dial up, shoot, dial correction to hit center of target.  Count the clicks you came up and adjust speed in app until it spits out same number of clicks.

Kinda what i was thinking as well. The chrono speed is never the number i end up inputting to true a profile.

You really have to true velocity at distance.  I've lost count of friends who have wasted their free cds dial by going off chronograph data or box listed velocities.  Most ballistic apps have a truing feature fyi.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Perhaps your range has a "Shot Marker" that you can use to get your true velocities at a determined distance? Then just download an app and input the info to your phone to get MOA or MILs.

Agree with others, verify real world BC and velocity by shooting the max distance you want to hunt at with your dial. Work backwards with a good ballistic calc like Berger's or similar to get your numbers to match and go from there. The more data points the better
