379 archery buck
« on: November 08, 2024, 12:24:17 PM »
Hello everyone...Long time mostly lurker here. My Big Bend archery buck tag became a Ringold tag with the state mess up.  It starts on the 15th. I've been roaming many miles of sage brush already and will continue scouting. I live nearby.

Not seeing a lot out there so far but im hopeful. Wondering if any other tag holders want to compare notes. Not looking for advice but wouldn't say no to any :chuckle: Be cool to see any past success as well. I'm starting to wonder if I should not hold out for anything special. Feel free to PM me as well.

I think it's open for late muzzleloader after my season. Happy to pass on anything I figure out during the bow tag. Good luck to everyone still hunting!  :IBCOOL:

I don't have this this tag but I also live near by. If it were me I would be checking a glassing along the river. That is where I have seen the most deer activity when i've been up on the reach and the ringold area bird hunting.

Check out Thompson seeps, iv seen good sign bird hunting in there. Also the west half of the refuge ground where the land tightens up between the river and highway

Appreciate all the advice! What a difference a week makes. Seen several decent bucks today playing around with does and bedded. A ton of meat and poor genetic bucks as well (any buck).

Hiked a lot of miles and glassed everything I possibly could from the river to 24 and even 17. Tommorrow is the big day. Haven't seen an elk Kirkl. Trust me I have been looking too. It's open for archery elk as well.

I've heard Ringold has been pretty slim pickings for everything this year. Weird area, it can turn on like a light switch out there though  :dunno:

Well all my scouting paid off. Double lung and done at 720 am. Gave him an hour just in case. Not much of a story. Started out ready for a big hike.

Looked back at my truck. Spotted the does and a buck bird dogging all over the place. Moved back towards it. We met at a funnel point.

100 yard pack out  :IBCOOL:

How hard does this unit get hunted for late muzzy? Just curious if it’s worth checking out or not

Nice job, that can be a tough tag to fill. The harvest data from last year was pretty low success if I remember right.

Also wanted to mention this area he's talking about is mostly closed to hunting unless you're north of the highway. Orange is closed to all access. Refuges have complex regulations, don't trust OnX.
Also the west half of the refuge ground where the land tightens up between the river and highway
