07 Peaches success (pics)
« on: November 23, 2007, 02:13:24 PM »
I finally got my hunting partner to burn his photo's to a disc for me, so here's my post on our 2007 peaches archery hunt.  We had a great hunt, we were into bulls every day. We hunted the road system for the first 4 days of the hunt and worked bulls each day but they didn't respond well to the calls.  My dad brought the horses over on the fifth day and we packed into the wilderness and hunted in their for 4 days with Gary killing a dandy 5X6 on the fourth day. He found this bull feeding along in the meadow in the photo and waited for the bull to feed by him at 30 yards before putting the hammer down.

We or should I say the horse packed out the bull on Saturday and we came out to shower up and re-supply to hunt the rest of the season in the wilderness.

My dad had to run home and I told Gary he should go home and try to fill his Oregon elk bow tag, my dad was coming back anyway to finish out the season with me.
Sitting around camp sunday evening I could hear bulls bugling. It was too close to dark to make a move, so I headed on 'em in the morning.
I located the bulls from the night before and moved in quickly on the four buglin' bulls. I called in the bull I ended up killing right off the bat but couldn't get a clear shot at twenty yards. I worked into the herd bull and almost closed the deal but one of his cows got my scent. I moved along with the herd hoping to slip in and put an arrow into the big 7X7 that ran the herd. They moved off quicker than I thought so I must have really buggered them.  About 100 yards behind me my bull screamed so I shifted back towards him and did a quick setup and screamed in the direction of the herd bull then I turned and cow called at my bull. He came a runnin'.  I stopped him broadside at 30 yards and buried one into him. He ran about 60 yards before piling up. I don't have any killsite photos because this was supposed to be a quick morning hunt so I didn't take my backpack/camera/gps/water, all I took was my knife, sharpener and marking tape.

We were able to get the horses right to the bull.

Helluva great hunt!

Bearhunter, we averaged  7 points, I had 4 points and my hunting partner had 10. I talked to guys who had put in with 10 points and not drawn and one guy who had no points and drew. Our draw system is all about luck. I drew this tag before with 6 points.

Great story, nice looking bulls, especially archery!  I enjoy hunting that unit as well.  Seems 6-8 points will garnish you a tag for archery.

Beautiful bull M-ray! That's my second time with that tag. This is the bull I killed when I drew in '02.

I ran into a fellow HuntWashington.commer on the hunt, Bowpredator. Real nice guy I wish he could have connected, but he got into 'em.

Wow Opportunist great bulls both times! I could only wish to be so lucky as to draw twice, that's awesome!!!! I'll probably never get it again and if I did I'll be too old I'm a geezer now but by the time I get it again I'll be a codger and too old to get after it! Thanks for the pics!
