Cottontail Rabbit and
Snowshoe Hare
5/day, see notes Statewide: Sept. 1, 2009 - Mar. 15, 2010 Possession limit: 15 straight or mixed bag

Season is closed until September.

But you are right.  I was always told you never eat rabbit in a month without an "R" in it.

There might be some rules for killing them if they are eating your garden but I cant find it.  Crows specifically say "Crows in the act of depredation may be taken at any time."  Rabbit season does not say this.    :dunno:  Big ol bucks are always tough anyways I like the little new years bunnies.  Tender and dumb  :chuckle:

kind of funny that there's a season and bag limit, since cottontails aren't native and very few people hunt them.  then again, so are most of our upland birds...

i'd like to try and find some places to whack some bunnies this upcoming fall, the problem here on the westside just seems to be finding any decent concentrations of them.

This must be one of the good years for rabbits, I've seen more this year then the past few years.  I've heard they have a 7 yr cycle or so.  Don't know if that's true, but sounds feasable.  I have a few honey holes for rabbits, seems like once you find a rabbit, that area will produce for years.  Seems like I have a tough time getting them with a 22, but I always seem to make the shot with the bow, go figure.....

rabbit populations are pretty cyclic -- once they get too big the toothy critters start to take notice :chuckle:
