578 Indian land
« on: November 12, 2024, 12:42:50 PM »
Everybody should be in tune with what’s going on in 578 with the Yakima tribe trying to take over the majority of this unit voices need to be heard and or some type of presence.

Apparently a treaty got “dug up” claiming they own half of 578 decisions are made soon which would in turn mean damn near half of 578 will be Yakima tribe land

If you're going to start a thread on this it would be nice if you could include some actual information. I was under the impression this was decided by the Supreme Court a couple years back...

All this should have been a done deal back in the '60s,That dispute was settled and I think $2.1 million was given to the tribe to relinquish all rights to what we refer to as Tract D, which takes in Glenwood, and so they accepted the money, ceded all rights to it.

then if it was sold with legal documents then it’s a closed door right ?

Old news.  Glenwood and a bunch of 578 is Reservation.  Expect a lot of State land and the Conboy unit to be transferred too.

Some water to Glenwood Ranches have already been shut off.  You need a Res permit to draw water.

I own 80 acres 1/2 on res land.   No surprise.

grandparents live there I’m hearing it potentially will require a res tag to hunt but if conboy gets sucked in that elk herd will be decimated

Yakama is the tribe.  Yakima you're talking about the town.

What about the town yakimas 170 miles away from Glenwood. What’s wrong with the 800,000 acres that tribe already has

They wanted the land the treaty apparently gave them, not less.  Who wouldn’t ?

Not sure where your getting your news from Shooter but this is old news. The supreme court made the ruling it's a done deal. It's already over they have been allowing the state to continue allowing hunting on the land until approx. this coming season

@Shooter4 who are your grandparents?  Wondering because I live here in Trac D.  As decided a couple years back, the Glenwood Valley is within the interior bounderies of the Yakima Nation.  Outside of the decades old water issue, I've seen no changes in hunting or fishing on private or state land unless you count cats, bears, wolfs and hoof rot :)
