don't really fish the high mountain lakes, but i do hike around a lot when i trout fish.  i use a 7' daiwa spinmatic ultralight rod and a pflueger president micro spinning reel with 4lb test.  i've landed fish to 10lbs(brooder trout at least) with this setup.  i see daiwa makes this same rod in a 4 piece pack version, i bet that'd be great if you're limited on space.

i don't think there's a trout out there that can resist a #0 silver mepps.  i cut the treble hooks off and put a #8 barbless single hook on mine, makes it less hard on the fish's mouth and easier to release them(i don't like to eat trout for the most part)

It depends on if you are going to keep the fish or catch and release. If catch and release I use a barbless mepps spinner and if keeping a use the mepps or glitter green floating power bait. I pack a telescopic pole and reel that fits in my pack so it doesn't catch on the brush as I hike into the lake.

Mepps rooster tails, bobbers, wet and dry flys.  Has a mosquito pattern fly and ran it 2' down from my bobber.  Knocked the hell outta sum cutts up by Stevens pass

 I use just about everything from Kastmasters to Flies. But the best tool in my pack is my Sevlor Trail Boat! They let you get to places on the lake where the shoreline dosent let a man get!

Kastmasters, primarily gold and silver, but silver/orange, silver/blue, silver/green work well.  1/4 ounce and smaller, varying retrieves, sizes and colors.  I use many of the of things already mentioned but I can catch fish with Kastmasters when no one else is catching anything or nothing else works, I hardly use anything else.  Also like to use black and olive wooly buggers behind a plastic bubble.

9' 5 weight 4 piece cortland rod, redington AL reel(in the scabbard of my eberlestock pack) and a floating line, mini-tips and some woolly buggers, or some dry flies if the fish are rising. you guys using the water bobbers and flies should give fly fishing a shot....like with a fly rod. it's fun and an added challenge.
