I couldn't bring myself to pay that much for muzzleloader bullets. I went with the Hornady SST's.  I tried them in 250 gr. and 300 gr.  Both shot very well.  But since I have a rimrock bull tag :IBCOOL: I went with the 300 gr.  From the stuff I have read they retain about 71 to 76 percent of their weight and they mushroom beautifully.  Here are a couple of links I looked at.

I believe I read somewhere in the last couple days that Hornady SST's and TC Shockwaves are the same.  Hornady makes them for TC.  I'll see if I can find where I read it and post it here.

Clipped this statement off of a Mississippi board...................

"As already stated here the Hornady SST and the T/C Shockwave are the same bullet manufactured by Hornady. The sabots for the two bullets are different though. Thompson makes their own sabot, while Hornady gets their sabots from MMP Sabots. The MMPs are a little tougher, and usually a little harder to get down the barrel....assuming a clean barrel on both guns.

Tough to get down the barrel is not really a bad thing. The "tighter" sabots will usually be a more accurate load than a "loose" loading sabot. The pressure on powder ignition doesn't get around the tighter sabot allowing better accuracy and probably better velocity."

Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee sells the shockwave for approx $12 per 15.  I thought it was a great price compaired to other sabots I have seen.

ok so I shot the 300gr SST in both eazy load sabots and the standard sabot.  I love eazy load sabots!!!!!!!!!!!!!  So nice to load and no difference in accuracy.  I shot one into a piece of railroad tie and dug it out and it mushroomed just like a jacketed bullet should.  The PR bullet that I put next to it was a big flat blob of lead.  Not like a railroad tie is anything like flesh but I figure if it can hold its shape on something like that it can handle a shoulder and some muscle.

BLR....are the easy load sabots the red ones that come in the plastic box of 20 SST bullets?  Also what muzzleloader are you shooting...and powder and load are you using.  Thanks again....good information.

I'm shooting a 50 cal Knight bighorn with the thumbhole stock.  The load I have settled with is 115 grains of Pioneer powder FFFG pushing the 300 grain Hornady SST EZ load sabots.  My buddy who also has a branch bull tag this year is shooting the same bullet but he uses two pyrodex pellets (100 grains) and they shoot very well for him out of his CVA.  Yes the EZ load sabots are the red ones.

p.s. 115 grains was the hottest load I could get with that bullet out of my gun before my groups started to grow.  I will dig out my camera and get some picks of the mushroomed bullets.

BLR....thanks again.  My son and I both have Knight Bighorns and I also have a couple Wolverines (all recent purchases), and my old TC .54 Renegade I bought in 1975.  Only difference is I'll be trying Triple 7 to begin with in the bighorn.
Been away from muzzleloading since the mid  to late 80's, that's why the questions.  Appreciate the help.
