Suppressor recommendation
« on: December 08, 2024, 01:53:51 PM »
Hey all, I’m looking to get a suppressor for a 6.5PRC. Rifle has a 24” barrel so I would like to keep it as short as possible but still work. Any recommendations? Also, I would prefer a .30 caliber suppressor so I could throw it on my 300wsm if needed.

Thanks!

@dreadi

I bought three suppressors from Dreadi thru his business.
He is super knowledgeable and helped me get 3 suppressors (and adapters) to cover my spectrum of needs.

I'd contact him.

:yeah:

I've personally never purchased a can from him but I've talked to dreadi a few times and he's always been great.

IMO, the Dead Air Nomad Ti XC is the perfect compromise of size, weight, and noise suppression.  The SilencerCo Scythe Ti is a popular choice and is a little lighter and a bit shorter then the DA Nomad Ti XC but the Scythe is noticeably louder as well.  If you want a smaller 1.5 dia diameter suppressor instead of the larger 1.7-1.8 suppressors the TBAC Ultra 7 is a top choice.

I think they have it narrowed down to a certain serial # range so I doubt it's a concern going forward but I know there was weld defect issues with the Scythe and some were coming apart.  I'm sure dreadi will know all the particulars on those affected with weld issues.

Currently working on my second can with Dreadi, an AB A-10 7.62. Highly recommend going through Dana.

The Thunderbeast suppressor summit data is extensive and helpful.

https://thunderbeastarms.com/sound/summit2024/

The mentioned cans (Nomad Ti, Scythe, Ultra 7) are definitely popular options. Others to consider would be the Otter Creek offerings, particularly the Polonium-30. One of those is in my future…

There are some shorter cans on the market like the TBAC Ultra 5. From everything I’ve read it’s too much of a compromise. The data seems to agree.

Might be worth printing the results from the .308 20” bolt action section of the suppressor summit results, then googling the specs of each to find the right balance of weight, length and OD. Cross off what doesn’t fit and narrow it down.

I'm using a Thunder Beast Magnus for 6.5 PRC.
There's plenty of lower cost options out there but, I wouldn't suggest the Scythe to be one of them. When you're already at $100 per ounce of suppressor that doesn't perform as well as others for nearly the same price, you might as well get something that will perform better even if it costs a bit more.

Never owned a can.  I found these AB suppressors.  For hunting I was thinking a 6 segment Raptor.

Their site only has one dealer in the area.

Waiting to certify on a Nomad Ti XC. Ordered 1/2x28 adapter and a 22 cal end cap. I should be good to go from 223 to 300 rum.

That just shows what dealer(s) buy them direct. It doesn't show what distributors other dealers can get them from.

I've only got one can thus far but it's an AB Raptor 8 and I freaking love it. I run it direct thread on my 300 Win Mag and my 6.5 Creedmoor. It's quiet and greatly reduces recoil. I'm shooting 1/2 - 3/4 MOA with my 300 with it installed. I would not hesitate to buy another Raptor or give the A-10 a chance as soon as I'm ready to buy another.

Very much love my Raptor 8.  Next can will be a dedicated .223 can for my .223 trainer and the a-10 is definitely gonna be it.  Shot one this last weekend on a .204 and was pleased with how it performed.

Noted.  So can you get AB and be competitive?

I'm thinking 6 segment.  For a 20" WSM I don't own yet (Trying to keep OAL down while at least providing SOME attenuation) with reflex mount and direct thread to 300 BO AR pistol.
