Did your BIG buck survive 2024 season.
« on: December 18, 2024, 12:25:04 PM »
Been scouting and looking for target bucks for 2025.(Before they drop)
Trying to see what survived the hunting season gauntlet.
Got a double spiker here....lol .
Anyone got the goods for next year?

I saw my last decent buck the last day of late buck. He's a stellar 2x1. Muzzy season just ended here so there's a chance he got done in during that. I generally don't see bucks until early summer and then again during the rut.

Can’t grow bucks these days.   Congrats to the hunter and I understand taking him (I thought about it),  but I selfishly like these bucks to live to potential.  My pic was October 30th.

I ate some pretty damn good tags this year, but my lesson is, it isn’t making a difference from a herd age class perspective.

After I got my Idaho buck I saw 4 bucks bigger than the one I got while I was elk hunting. Pretty confident they made it through the season. There was only a few days left and there was really no one hunting in there.

Dang JJ I can’t believe you passed that, but good on you.  I passed several 19-22” bucks in Montana, and just the week I was there at least 2 of them hit the dirt.  Didn’t you have a trip to AB this year too? Maybe I missed the thread but would love to hear a quick wrap on your experience up there

seriously though, you hit the nail on the head in your first post. You can't bank bucks for the future.  Between humans, mother nature, migrations, wolves, cats, bears, etc. there's just no guarantee they'll survive another year.  But sometimes they do so unless it's a buck that just really tickles a guys fancy then roll the dice and let em walk.  Good on you for sticking to your guns.

I have several bucks I hope to see next year . Not worried about hunters in my Idaho spot it’s winter and predators that do the damage on them

THen throw in most of the bucks I did see again from last year were smaller this year than last year.   Drought I guess :dunno:   I do enjoy seeing those not plugging deer just to fill the tag, but knowing what they want, and passing everything else.   There are just alot of hunts and alot of folks out there, and not a plethora of deer.
