New toy Bergera B-14 wilderness Carbon 300 win mag
« on: November 22, 2024, 04:03:58 PM »
I just got home with the above mentioned rifle gonna a Leupold MK4 LRT on it. I have components but does anyone have a pet load. 1:10 twist 24” barrel. Thinking 180 grain boolits would be nice but I’m open to advice. Gonna be using H1000 for propellant and federal magnum match primers.

Bumping this hoping someone has an idea of a place to start I plan to use this rifle for hunting deer and elk. Bullet weight and type suggestions would be appreciated.

Bullets:

I loaded up some 165 TTSX rounds for my 300 winmag recently. 26" 1 in 10 twist.  I don't have any results to report on those yet.

Many people like nosler accubonds.  Sierra gameking bullets have a solid reputation as hunting bullets and they are much cheaper.

If you want to stay with a cup and core bullet.....the 180 grain accubond all the way.

If you want a monolithic bullet.....154 HHT, 160 HH or 168 HHT would be my hammer bullet choices.  Any of those would work and I would personally go with the 160 HH or 168 HHT.  You would have to change your powder to something in the burn rate of H4350 with any of the mono's.  I suspect you would be pushing any of those bullets at 3400-3600 fps.  With those speeds, I would look really hard at the 160 HH (non tipped hammer).  if you go with a mono, you have to go light for caliber as they like speed.  It also makes for a really long OACL if you go with standard weight bullets.  Check your twist and mag length before buying mono's.

Good luck...should be an amazing rifle.

H1000 and 300wm go together like biscuits and gravy.  You’ll probably end up right around 76gr with the 180’s depending on seating depth.
