Single spring 330?
« on: December 19, 2024, 01:42:31 PM »
I've always been impressed with the hammer effect the 330 delivers on beaver and otter.  Having said that, it's a big footprint to fit in tight places.  Does anyone know if a single spring 330 would be effective enough to still be an efficient means of taking beaver and otter?  Thanks for reading.

I've never heard of a single spring 330 but I think it would be a mistake. I know when my 280s and 330s got older I noticed a significant increase in hip caught otter. That alone would keep me from using a weaker coni of any size. I know they did make 210s which were a single spring 220 but were made for muskrat I understand.
If I had a smaller opening, I would use a 280.

I wouldn’t use single spring.  You can rotate the springs 90 degrees of course
To tighten space.  I just put sticks vertically inside the springs like a lil wall on both sides of the run.

I think you would be better off with a traditional double spring in 280 since the spring is what closes the conibear and the pressure is what keeps the jaws closed

Yep use 280's they are quicker and a touch smaller.  A single spring 330 is going to be slow.

I would use a #280 they smaller and I think sometimes better depending on what you're after and where you are setting them.
If I could only have one size bodygrip for beaver and otter, I would have @80's hands down.
