1st Buck off our Mississppi property
« on: January 01, 2025, 06:05:24 PM »
My son lives in Amory Mississippi and we bought 120 acres about 10 minutes from his house. Im down here spending New Years with him and hunting a little, golfing a little. He has worked his butt off all summer putting in food plots and making trails etc. Shot this pretty 9 pt tonight and is our 1st buck off the property. He didnt hunt tonight so he dropped me off and then helped me drag it 400 yards to the truck. I have never killed a Deer off my own property before and it feels pretty good

Pretty darn cool!

120 acres sounds like a lot of fun.

Unfortunately its my first and last. My son is moving up near me in Idaho and we are selling it in May. He shot a Doe last week and still has a month to hunt so hopefully he shoots a couple more. I think the limit here is 4 Does and 3 Bucks. We were managing it to take 4 Does and 2 Bucks between us, so he still has some work to do :chuckle:

That’s gotta help the appeal of your property at least  How much does 120 acres go for in Mississippi? I’m guessing it’s less than Idaho  :chuckle:

My son says the hound season is going on right now. I havent heard any hounds out near the property but did hear some Tuesday by his house on an island.

Hunted in Florida years ago when they allowed them. Made it tough for the non-hound deer hunters. You might get lucky if someone's hounds ran a buck by you but the hound hunting made the deer a lot more wary and much more nocturnal.

We have more issues with stray dogs than anything/ Logan got boogered last week by dogs right as he was about to shoot a buck. He was not a happy camper LOL

Do the dogs have collars? I was hunting down in North Carolina on a buddies lease. I had 3 dogs run through and screwed up my hunt. When we met up later I told him about it. He asked why I didn’t shoot the dogs. I saw them a couple weeks later shot two of them that didn’t have collars.

Some do, most dont. Its kind of like WASH game dept on Wolves. They will spend more resources finding who killed a dog down there than they would on a human

They way Logan was told by the Sheriff, animal control and the game dept. If it doesnt have a collar you can shoot it. If it does have a collar you will be in big trouble. He did kill an uncollered one last week
