Keltech PR57
« on: January 27, 2025, 09:45:11 PM »
I saw a review on the new keltech PR57. It holds 21 rounds but has no magazine. Since we have a magazine ban that limits you to 10 round magazines would this be legal to purchase in Washington?  I don’t see a law restricting it but I’m no legal expert. What are everyone’s opinions

Go to Kel-tec's website and see how rounds they state the magazine holds.

I did see that. Up top it says magezine less and the capacity it says magazine. I was hoping you would say yes I could get it so I could order one from you. 😂

The key for us is that it is not a detachable magazine. Our current RCW does not prevent us from obtaining pistols with fixed/non detachable magazines amid all the other so called scary black things.

Language in the bill includes internal mags. This was discussed on another forum and the agreement was not ok in WA. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, I had a PS 90 5.7mm when they had just become available. Nice little cartridge.

What language in what RCW includes internal magazines for pistols?

One of the definitions of assault weapon:

(v) A semiautomatic, center fire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

The PR57 is a pistol.

I was thinking the same thing Dana. This is a clip fed pistol, can be loaded one round at a time, just like a shotgun. Worst case is Keltech inserts a factory “plug”, just the same as shotguns have to limit hunting to 3 shells, and then Washington residents should be legal to purchase…even if what Dana says is somehow determined to be illegal. :twocents:

What we need to know is what the state defines as an ammunition feeding device. A so called large capacity magazine is an ammunition feeding device  that holds more than 10 rounds, according to the RCW. However, there is no definition for an ammunition feeding device in Chapter 9.41 of the RCW.

The state politicians have zero clue what they are talking about, they never considered a gun like this being produced…figured their policy was the end all!

I have two cents that says they will make one that is limited to ten rounds.

We will have to see what becomes available to dealers in WA that are not selling them to the exempted few. That's often a strong indicator of what attorneys believe to be a correct interpretation. However, in the past I have had to correct a distributor that would not ship a threaded bolt gun and a manufacturer that would not ship threaded prefit Savage barrels to WA.
