SENATE TO VOTE ON INSLEE'S COMMISIONERS - NEED ACTION NOW!
« on: February 05, 2025, 11:45:31 AM »
Both WDFW Commissioner appointments requested to be returned by Ferguson are on today's Senate 12:30 floor calendar for the formal vote to release the appointments and return them to the Governor's office.

The R caucus is on board the vote.  The D's have been getting bombarded with emails in an effort to keep the two of them on the Commission.  Actual vote will take place sometime between 12:30 and circa 1:30, or so.

Please e-mail and/or call your Senator's office and urge them to deny Inslee's last minute appointments.

VICTORY!

Inslee's idiotic appointments have been returned to the Governor's office via a pro-forma vote.

Former Governor Jay Inslee’s controversial last-days appointments of two Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission members have been rescinded.

TIM RAGEN AND LYNN O’CONNOR. (WDFW)
Senate Gubernatorial Appointment bills for Tim Ragen, the citizen panel’s vice chair and former director of the US Marine Mammal Commission, and the recently appointed Lynn O’Connor of Ferry County, who replaced rancher Molly Linville of Douglas County, have been marked “returned to Governor” this afternoon.

That means Ferguson will have a chance to appoint two new members to the commission which oversees WDFW policies and hires and fires its director.

“I think this is a positive step in the right direction from the new governor,” said Ron Garner, state board president of Puget Sound Anglers. “Kudos to the Senate too! Big win for Washington State.”

Garner also credited strong tribal efforts to overturn Inslee’s decisions that came with just six days left in his third and final term and followed years of troubling appointments to the commission.

For the time being, it leaves the commission with seven members – Chair Barbara Baker of Olympia and Commissioners Jim Anderson of Buckley, John Lehmkuhl of Wenatchee, Woody Myers of Spokane, Steve Parker of Yakima, Melanie Rowland of Twisp and Lorna Smith of Port Townsend.

With Inslee out and Ruth Musgrave no longer the Senior Policy Advisor on Natural Resources to the governor, who is the new policy advisor for Ferguson?

It's so beautiful.  Lots of strange bedfellows when it comes to politics in WA.

Garner is absolutely correct though...the tribes were clutch.  Some people ought to remember that the next time they badmouth them.  I for one appreciate them as an ally when it comes to fighting the anti-consumption nonsense.

How do you think the anti-consumption crowd gained control over the Commission?

Base hits.  Small wins.

Hunters and anglers would do well to keep that approach in mind and emulate it...early and often.

:yeah: and Kim Thorburn.

I'd bet a fair sum of money if this Gov would also dump Lorna and Melanie, and appointed reasonable people, you would see a functional commission again.

It's awesome news, I've been told the tribes were a huge help, there may be some hope!

Yeah the article mentions the tribes being a big part of it this time. I hope they stick with it (the tribes) and beat the door down to get some changes made for everyone. I just wonder what Ferguson is going to do. I have no idea how he feels about hunting and fishing rights and if he possibly does any outdoor recreating at all.  :dunno:

Or...it could be a good thing.  Let's try and be constructively positive.

We've been on the same side with the Tribes more than most people will ever know.  They/we want more fish and critters roaming about.

I'd much rather work with entities that share our consumptive hunting and angling interests than anti-consumption whackos. There's zero opportunity to have rational conversations and negotiations with the latter.

Anyone who’s submitted an application in the past is encouraged to resubmit a new application. They won’t be going off the old applications on file FYI.

If your throwing your name in again good luck...
I suspect Ferg doesn't really care .. he'll take the advice of his advisors..so I'm skeptical..

I’ve got nothing to lose, might as well throw the Hail Mary.

I guess the two Commissioners were returned to the Governor at his request. I doubt that is because he wants some more radical Commissioners so that sounds very hopeful to me.

Correct, but he needed the Senate votes to do so.

It's my understanding that he's somewhat ambivalent.  There are much more pressing things on his radar.  He's an avid hiker.

That could be a bad thing.....

Us and the Tribes on the same side? Who'da Thunk it? Obviously not Inslard!

What I was referring (Bad Thing)  to is greenie hikers fear of armed folks sharing their trails and woods

Don't loose hope! This can be turned around!
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

We know two of the options.

Would be cool to know the others. Be nice if the interviews where made public.
