Sportsman’s Muzzloader Selection

So after some time I was able to save up $1000 of Sportsman’s points.
I want to buy a muzzloader for the first time and look for recommendations.
I was interested in the CVA MR-x or LR-x but reading reviews online look like the newer x models have had issues.

Not familiar with many brands so looking for first hand experiences.

I love my CVA Optima, I've had it for years. I don't know anything about CVAs new options. As much as an inline muzzy is convenient and nice, it is 1000% cooler to hunt with a real muzzy. I recommend everyone get and hunt with a traditional style muzzy.

exactly knight disc extreme are 209 ignition and get extras with it

I have both MR-X and LR-X and love them both. I've had zero issues with either of them.  Very accurate and deadly on game.

As far as I know knight muzzleloaders are no longer sold at Sportsmans warehouse.

Yeah it looks like my only options are CVA , Traditions. Looks like everything is out of stock.

I also have the CVA optima, it’s been a good gun, easy to use.  Because they are so cheap I’ve been considering getting a real muzzy, but then I find myself really liking what I have.  Prob only negative is the shorter barrel, but I’m not one of those guys who shoots 200+ yards w a muzzy.  Would love to find a thumb hole stock for it though.

1x Traditions
But you won’t find em at Sportsmans
As others have said, get what you can out of there because they never have hardly anything

After getting burned with a bad cva accura lrx and refusing to pay Knights markup, I picked up a traditions vortek strikerfire last year. I didn't have high hopes for such a cheap rifle but it actually shoots fantastic.

Yeah I was extremely disappointed a couple weeks ago. I hadn’t been there for a while and man did it look like inventory levels were really low in almost every department.

I’m currently leaning towards the Traditions Pursuit XT Pro. Really like the finish, just hope it shoots better then it looks.

Thinking of putting a holosun on my CVA, the one I have on my .300 blackout is on a rail.  What’s the best way to attach it to my muzzy? Buy a rail, which one? And I hope it’s not gonna sit too high with the rail to zero in??  Advice.

You should be good putting a rail on it and slapping the Holosun on. My buddy put a Trijicon RMR on his rail and it sits just fine.

went with the trijicon on the CVA instead, need to shoot it now.

Do you guys think the traditions nitro fire is legal in Wa??   It has the powder in a plastic casing and is loaded at the back end of barrel with the primer.

No joke! Last time I was in it was like a ghost town! Inventory levels in a handful of departments looked really low. Plus the selection they offer looked condensed compared to previous years.

I drew multi deer so I will be definitely getting a muzzy and have an excuse now to give it a try.

(a) Muzzleloader: A firearm that is loaded from the muzzle and uses black powder or a black powder substitute as recommended by the manufacturer for use in all muzzleloading firearms. The term load refers to the powder charge and projectile and both must be loaded from the muzzle.

Not trying to high jack this thread but I’m also looking for a muzzleloader to get into muzzy elk this year, dies the CVA Optima come from the factory ready to use 209 primers? I’m having trouble finding a straight answer online thank you!

Yes, get the optima. I hunted with a buddy's and really liked it. Went looking and ended up with the acurra  mxr. There is nothing wrong with it, it shoots. Seems a little heaver, suppose to have an adjustable trigger. The optima trigger was fine. I didn't need an adjustable stock, but now I have one. The optima just seems handy. Oh, and there is the ram rod thing. The Optima's under the barrel where it should be the mxr, is not. The MRX has one that is collapsible. I carry it under my bino pouch, some people carry it on their belt or on their backpack. If its under the barrel you don't have to go looking for it.

Thanks for all the feedback , I will be going the Optima route. I’ll ease my way into muzzleloaders. I’ll save the rest of my points and buy another gun or something!
