Which one and why in .25-06?
« on: June 23, 2009, 05:55:27 PM »
I'm trying to decide between a used cdl or buying a new sps stainless. Which do you think would be the better rifle?

Is the CDL SS?
I Think the sps's are a good value but I hate the bead blasted finish on them. I'm probably a little harder on my rifles then most but I scratch the hell out of that finish on the SS bbl. It leaves shinny scratches, as shinny as polished SS. I've got one SPS varmint in .223 that shoots really good so I'm going to keep it but I'll eventually get the SS all bead blasted.

BTW. I didn't say much about the CDL becuse I haven't any real experience with one. I only have one CDL and I haven't even put a round through it yet.

No, the CDL isn't SS. It has the carbon steel barrel, which is why I was leaning towards the SPS Stainless, but I'm with you in that I don't really care for the finish. I would love to have one of the old Senderos in .25-06, but there is only one on gunbroker and the guy wants $1300 for it.

I looked over there earlier real quick, but didn't see anything. I'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks.

I'd go with the CDL just because I like the looks of them better.  Are looking at Remington only?  If not check out Rugers M77 target rifle.  I have one in .25-06 and it shoots great. By far my most accurate rifle. The laminated stock and target grey barrel make it look real sharp also.

Yeah, i'm kind of stuck on Remingtons. I did find a guy selling a sendero, just waiting to hear his price.

There is a custom rem 700 in .25-06 going for $950 right now on there. I don't know much about the components he said were used though.

:yeah:

My dad loves the caliber (I'm a .30 kinda guy).  He gave me a heavy-barreled H&R in .25-06 a few years ago... it's still sitting in the gun safe collecting dust.  Why not .270 or even .243/7mm-08?  I gave my dad a .257 Roberts... it's a great caliber (used it on javalina in Texas), but I just couldn't find a place for it.  The .223, .243 .308/.30-06 will take care of anything I hunt .  To each, their own... I'm just having trouble understanding the appeal of .25-06.

.25's a great caliber for most everything we hunt here including predators and bears with a nice light recoil and great ballistics.
