Browning X Bolt sticky stock
« on: March 03, 2025, 06:36:47 AM »
Opened safe after a few months. I had not heard anything about it. Purchased in 2011. Has anyone sent theirs in for replacement ? How long did it take ?
Or did you try and clean it ?
Thanks

There is a recall. I sent mine in to Browning just a couple weeks ago.

Ok. Sent a packing slip already. Can't print. Windows is too old. On my 280. Win 300 purchased in 2013. Still ok. Should have stayed with Weatherby.
UPS ?  Do they send back to us ?

I sent mine in a year ago and there’s a little box on the form that says camo pattern but my gun was black. The box on the form didn’t work, but I selected the pattern I wanted using some black magic that rhymes with “picrosoft maint” and they sent me a SPIFFY new camo pattern stock.

I sent mine in within the last few years. They did great. Replaced very quickly and used a very similar looking but non duracoat stock. Pretty easy process through their recall. Mine was horrible. The black duratouch stock would turn completely grey while getting wet. Would start getting a melty tacky feel. Once all cleaned and put away in safe it literally melted horribly in safe. I will see if I can dig up pictures. It was very bad. Although currently due to circumstances I am now unable to shoot the rifle. But did love that gun when I did use it years ago. Very accurate. Glad they stood behind the stock defect.

A wet day in the woods would melt the stock coating

Ya,. Enough dirt it won't be sticky any more. They said it will take about 3 mos. for black to get it done.

I went through this last fall with a Browning Silver Shotgun.  I just called the Browning service folks in Arnold, MO and discussed it with them.  They gave me some different options for camo finishes and i sent it in.  My shotgun came back looking brand new (and i had used it quite a bit on the salt).  They even replaced a few parts on the gas piston free of charge.  I was a bit skeptical going into it, but completely happy in the end.  I should have done it sooner.  They had my gun for about 3.5-4mo total door to door if i recall.

Browning and Winchester had this problem going back 20yrs now.
I thought they learned from the A-bolts with that problem  :dunno:

Browning will send you a call tag to pick up and they can return it to you for repair basis only.
Do it now and you will have it back before you know it and way before hunting season.

Browning never applied Dura-touch finish to A-bolts.

A bolts were discontinued in 1994 long before Dura-touch.
Some after market company must have applied a similar finish.

Some A bolt stocks did turn a little chalky, but never sticky.

From what I've read thr Dura Tech issues were on guns produced between 2007 and 2017.
