Maui Charter Recommendations
« on: March 09, 2025, 08:56:20 PM »
Heading over for Spring Break and didn’t know if anyone had any recommendations for a decent fishing trip.  Tried in Oahu a couple years ago and it wasn’t good, so hoping someone can put me in the right place this trip.

Thanks

I went on a spearfish trip when in maui a couple years ago that was pretty cool. It was with (https://www.mauispearfishing.com/fish) and I took their spearfishing 101 class. Most of the class was learning how to hold your breath and freedive with a little fishing at the end. I went from only being able to dive to about 8'-10' to diving up to 40'-50' without scuba equipment. It was a lot of fun to learn and it ignited in me a love of spearfishing and diving.

Probably not the charter your looking for,  but i definitely felt the 250 bucks was worth learning a new skill.

PS. its not for the out of shape. We scaled down a steep slope and got into semi-rough water. You also need a decent amount of lung capacity, and you probably wont shoot a lot of fish since they are targeting just non-native species.

I don’t have a charter name, but I would look at the midnight run to Momma’s buoy. You’ll get tuna and maybe Mahi Mahi. It’s a long day but definitely the most productive charter I’ve been on.

Great to know. I'm headed to Maui the first week of April and was also looking into either a fishing charter or spear fishing. Spearfishing sounded like the most fun.

The cool thing about maui is that it doesnt require a fishing license, you just have to follow the rules. Take a spearfishing class then just go out and try your hand at it later too! You should probably bring a buddy.

Maui, you're fishing on a commercial boat and they're only going to give you what you can eat that day if you catch anything.

I went a few years ago out of Maui. It was not prime season. I'd save your $1,500 and plan a trip to Costa Rica. It's way cheaper all the way around than Maui. With that being said, I'm going next month because we're using up a timeshare we are trying to ditch. pretty sure it will be the last trip to HI.

CR is way less expensive and you can control your level of touristy stuff. It's super clean, people are awesome and fishing is off the charts and cheap.

Look up Fuzzy if he still guides.
I know this name sounds like a joke but he was the guides guide last time I went out of Maui.
We did the catch your bait at midnight and run to the buoy.
Look up Fuzzy.
