Rubber bullets
« on: March 18, 2025, 06:56:39 PM »
Anyone ever load revolver with rubber bullets? See that some plinking loads are primer only but are a bit lame. For .45lc, haven't found any recipe for adding a few grains of powder or is that sumpin just not done?

You can use a primer only and then press the case into wax to make a wax bullet.  I'd be worried that a rubber bullet would bounce everywhere unless you had some kind of trap.  Wax bullets have been used for some time.

I think the problem with just a few grains of some kind of smokless powder is that you get too much "air space" and get more of a detonation rather than an ignition.  Maybe if you use blackpowder in order to get more volume?

Primer only is likely to result in a stuck bullet.  You'd be better off trying Trail Boss, Red dot, or something similar.

Make sure that your bullet actually exits the barrel before you set off another round.

TMK that's what the quickdraw guys do.

Speer makes plastic cases and bullet that are recoverable and use a lone large pistol primer.  I don't think 45.

I suspect you can't hurt the gun with primer only even if a squib.  Still would be best practice.  Certainly before any regular ammo was fired.

I have had a box of the 44 Mag for years.
Shot them in a S&W 29 a lot.
Never seen them in a long time.
