Anyone try the new digiscope setups ?

I have the old phone scope setup where your phone attaches with a 1/4 turn attachment. Saw a couple new setups with the magnetic case and magnetic ring on the scope. Has anyone tried the magnetic setup and what do you think? Is it a quicker and better system?

I had the magview. Nice because you just add a metal plate to the back of your existing case or back of the phone. But you have to index the camera lens to align every time you attach it. I also had issues with the Magview staying securely on the optical lens of my Kowa. Broke it trying to crank it down on the optical lens.

Switched to the Ollin and it’s perfect for me. You are limited to one lens and a proprietary phone case. The phone case isn’t nearly as intrusive as the phone skope, I leave it on all the time. Kind of a nice index finger rest.

I got several photos/videos of elk and deer this year with the Ollin that I wouldn’t have using the Magview. Animal moving into cover, just able to get the spotter and phone setup in time to record. If I had to mess with indexing on the Magview I wouldn’t have captured it. One of those ended up being a target buck.

As pickardjw stated, speed is almost everything when it comes to phone scoping and the ollin is the fastest I've used.  I haven't come up with a negative about it. The phone skopes are hot trash, so ditch it and move on

Bit of a side note, highly recommend getting a bluetooth shutter remote similar to the one linked below. Slip it in the bino harness and use it if you have time. Eliminates the shake and blurriness you get trying to tap the shutter button on your phone.

This buck almost walked on top of me. Photo is maybe at 100 yards. It's not @boneaddict quality, but it would not be as good as it is without the remote shutter! Standard iPhone 15, swaro STC, Ollin.

2nd, about the Bluetooth shutter clicker, it's so nice to have, and they are cheap.

I use the novagrade adapter. the pro is that it works with any phone, so you don't have to buy anything new if you get a new phone, or if you are using someone else's phone.  The con is it's big and bulky compared to the rest of the options.

My recommendation is always take video. It allows to possibly capture more angles and details.  So many times you only get seconds with a buck before they hit cover or they are moving and won't stop for a still so you end up with a blurry still. Video allows you to capture so much more detail in a short window of time

Two seasons with Ollin. Way better than phonescope and much cheaper when you change phones.

Also, there is far less movement when you attach, so you don’t lose your subject in the field of view.

The mag view worked decent for me last year but it’s a pain to line up perfect and gets harder if you are in a hurry to catch a moving animal.. I’ll have to give the Olin a try also. I second the video suggestion, it’s really helpful to be able to ffwd or rwd to catch different angles

I went to the ScopeCam and have been happy with it. 

I like that I can toss it on any ones optic at any time.  Very easy to use.  And no giant phone case needed.

It is however a touch on the larger side.  Fits in my pocket but it's bulky.

I’m back to outdoorsmans setup. I thought ollin was junk especially for the price. To me outdoorsmans is quicker and I can zoom to the max and it stays in focus. Will be having a ollin iPhone 13 case and BTX adapter for sale real soon, unless I need it to hold some papers down or something.

Interesting.  I had the outdoorsmans for quite a few years. My experience between them and Ollin are completely opposite of yours.  Couldn't press it on without putting a second hand on the optic, with the press on movement it would often push my spotter off target. Took 2-3x longer to get it on and filming vs the ollin. And best of all my phone didn't have to live with a eye piece connected to it all the time.
