I have 2 pts and with my luck I will not be going. My other group didn稚 go with 2 points a couple years ago.

Why do you have 1 point? Did you buy a preference point while applying?

With the way the draw is, you have 0% to draw with 1 unless you're doing deer only.

It's better to go in with zero, if you don't draw then buy the point in the summer when it opens, then buy one at application time to go in with 2 the following year.

Just a FYI. Odds are weird and not sure if you knew that or not.

They dont let you buy a preference point later on if you apply with zero.

I found that out the hard way one year! Was able to draw with 0 the following though so it worked out in the end.

Well that would make sense then!  thanks for letting me know.  I crossed out that bit above.

BUT - wouldn't it be cheaper to not apply with 1 since it's 0%, then buy the point in the summer, and then reapply buying the point the next year instead.  I haven't applied in a while to MT and not up to speed on refunds and costs.  I feel like it costs more than $100 to apply to the combo when you don't draw.

Got a group with some doing deer only, some doing big game combo. Deer guys applied as a group, the rest of us applied separately for big game combo. Hope it doesn't bite us in butt!

Applied for special permit elk too. If I don't draw big game combo but hit that special permit I'll be happy.

you can't draw an LE permit without first drawing the genral combo. If you don't draw general combo your name isn't even in the hat for the permit.

:yeah:  Its a dual gauntlet to get drawn for a special permit in Montana

In w/ 2 for the combo.  That's worked for me so far, but not liking the way things are going because I like to have a 'sure thing' lined up every year for out-of-state hunts and if you lose your points when you don't apply it screws up the rotation.  This year I'll try to cash in some MT cow bonus points if I don't get the combo just to keep the freezer full

Sorry, yes I should clarify, I purchased the pref point with the app this year so that gives me 1 pt, but I知 well aware it pretty much guarantees I won稚 be getting drawn lol
