How many is too many?

I started in August of last year with just one camera and a new bow.... By the end of September and my (first) 2024 season, I had added two more. There was a deal on a 2-pack and I figured 3 was better than just 2 cameras any day.

Over the winter I picked up a couple more (those damned 2-pack deals again) but then my wife claimed one for her chicken coop in a minor skirmish with some rodents.

"Well, I'll have to replace it, you know," I told her as I handed one of my little gems over.

"Oh, of course," she replied.

"They come in 2-packs you know?!"

The new cameras arrived a few days ago and yesterday I finally got time to hike up to the landing and place them. Lots of sign up on that landing.

Now I have 6 trail cameras! Ah! Ah! Ah! (<insert poorly done impression of the Count from Sesame Street)

I only have a few and dont use them much but a buddy of mine in North Idaho has between 70 and 80. Every one of them in video mode and he sure gets some great vids

I have 8 on two properties that I hunt. One is a 2.5 acre piece and one is a little over 5 acres. I know who and what is on each piece all the time.

I'm having just as much fun scouting and checking cams as I did last season trying to shoot something!

Trail camming is becoming a hobby unto itself I think!

i have 6 and need more( cant pass up the 3 pack deals) great exercise i check them 3 times a week and keep moving them. i get so much info on the area im an addict.

 I have 20ish. not all deployed, but sure are lots of fun. One of my over winter cams got tons of bucks, unfortunately it was an older cam so crappy pics. Next winter a good cam will be in that spot.

Finding killer deals has put me around 3 dozen. The last 3 cells were Bushnells for $18 each on clearance lol. I need a battery sponsor!

It's true.
Alot of batterys.
I've been using Amazon basic batteries for a few years..
They seem ok for the money.
Trail cam is one of my favorite hobbies.
I've been looking at spots a lot differently with the new laws.
It also seems like without attractant,there will be an explosion of cams in rando spots.
So we better smile ,give the camera a little show...
It's similar for me as well,fun all year scouting.
I have like 30 cheap cams ,but only run about a dozen or so.
Probably running less with the new rules.
You can never have enough.

Never a dumb question.
Most of us have picked up a few cameras each year till you have more than you want.

my location has no cell service. 
So there is no use spending money on expensive cameras. Plus the cheap ones, GardePro 5E, I just checked, are fine and I cant say they didn't do the job. So I will keep adding cheap cameras and if I somehow lose one or two, oh well.
I will find natural bait, trails, funnels, intersections, water, and so forth, there are so many others ways to get pics than just a bait pile. I see that is being a problem for small pieces of land with not much reason to hold or attract deer. Then bait would be critical.

Depends what kind of hunting you like to do.  I have 6 cheap, non-cell cams but none of the places I hunt have cell service.  I've gotten some great images that I really cherish, but I hunt far enough back that if I put them out I might get screwed if smoke comes in or the weather turns bad or I want to hunt somewhere else - in that case I'd rather not have to go back to get them especially since I know how animals are using the terrain there now.  Now, a quality tag - that would be another story.   They can also be excellent for crossing areas off your list!
