Drano Lake Springers
« on: April 29, 2025, 07:34:24 AM »
Just got back from 2 days down at Drano Lake.  Fishing is getting good!  Buddy and fellow Hunt WA member is now guiding down there and elsewhere here in WA for salmon and steelhead.  Look him up:  Logan with Bonkers Guide Service

Looks like a great time.

I've always wanted to throw my boat in there, little concerned I'll drag my line through everyone else and cause the world's biggest rat nest.

Buckhunter, it happens to everyone down there.  Probably about 100 boats down there on Sunday morning, fishing in tight quarters.  Not uncommon to get your gear tangled with guys on another boat, especially when you get a fish on.  My advice...go down there and fish on someone else's boat the first time and get a feel for what it's like.  It's a shi_ Show for sure.  I'd never want to captain a boat down there.  My buddy Logan does a great job of it, but there's no way I'd be running a boat there.  There's always a handful of guys that don't know what they're doing that make it even tougher for everyone else. And if it's windy, like it's been the last few days, it really tough.  Fishing weekdays (except closed on Wednesday) and in the evenings is less chaotic.  I saw maybe 30 boats out on the water Sunday evening, which isn't bad at all on Drano.

Never fished it but always wondered why folks troll that pond. Seems if everyone anchored and hover fished or bait under a float there would be much less chaos. Prolly way more fish hooked also

Nice fish! Looks like good times!

It's definitely a troll show for the springers down there. You can troll the main lake largely away from the crowd but bites are fewer and further between. The summer steelhead get fished on anchor with bait/float setups and fall Chinook get hover fished with bait.

It's one of the more crazy spots, kind of like if they allowed you to troll with bumper boats at the Sportsman's Show trout pond.

we’ve always figured main lake isn’ta good anymore because most the biters are being taken out by the armada in the bowl.

Anyone know if they're hitting any from the bank? Been debating on making the drive over.

The way the fish are pouring over the dam it is about as good of an opportunity as there will be. Maybe bring the brass knuckles too!... :chuckle:

We saw 2-3 get caught by the bank fishermen each day I was there.
