I AM EXCITED. NOT
« on: July 03, 2009, 09:10:11 AM »
I was sitting here at the computer a couple of days ago and saw a movement out on the lawn.  Looked up and saw three bucks eating the grass.  The first one was a thee point.  A nice compact rack.  That is if you like small racks. All three deer were small.  There was also a two point, and a spike.  The antlers on the spike was about four inches long.  Some one will shoot the three point because he is legal.  I doubt that the three point will dress out much more than 50-60 pounds.  If you were to kill all three and bone them out you would not have enough meat to get you through the winter.
I have never seen such small deer in the 20 years we have lived here.  They don't come close to the Oregon Blacktail seen on another thread.

Did they have big rabbit-like ears?, could be the elusive jackolope?
Reguardless they need to be culled.

Is it possible that it's the other way around on these deer ? I mean maybe that the two branched bucks are just young { along with the spike } and good habitat and genetics cause them to grow larger than normal size racks at a young age ? A 2 or 3 pt blacktail will dress out at more than that. Not a Biologist by any means, just a thought ??
Can't we all just get along?

Iceman I don't know.  We get blacktails, mule deer and crosses out here, but not that small.  You get into or near Goldendale, and that is about the size.  However there is also a huge 5 X 5 living within the city limits.  I guess I was taken back by how small these guys are.
