Last year putting in…
« on: May 20, 2025, 07:38:07 PM »
Owned my property in Priest River ID for almost 4 years now. Bitter sweet. I have 22 points in WA in every category. This is my last year putting in for special permits.
I haven’t even put in for hard spots to draw for my deer and still can’t draw. Not expecting anything different this year and if I don’t draw, one final F you to Wa. I literally have Elk in my back yard in ID and excited to finally be a resident and stop paying non resident to ID. Plus the feeling of being a free man from all the gun laws, etc in WA.
Wish you all good luck this year 👍

Congratulations and wish I could do the same. Hopefully by the time I make it there or Montana those states aren’t ruined like Washington.

Thank you. It’s a shame, WA is one of the most beautiful states in the nation. It used to be a great state to hunt and I have taken many trophies here. I can’t take the politics anymore and feel for my fellow hunters that are stuck. I know I can run, but can’t hide moving to ID. Maybe I’ll have at least 10 years of piece before the diseased libs take over.
Good luck again everyone.

I get that 100%
My daughter and grandkids lives in Deer park Wa. Only a 40 minute drive for us now and my wife was freaking out living that far apart. My other daughter lives in Frenchtown, MT. It is what it is.., can’t make everyone happy.

So you are moving to the middle? Sounds perfect... We even offered to sell the place and build a commune in Idaho, still working on it   :)

Good luck to you. Yes kinda in the middle. I’d love to live near my daughter in frenchtown as well,  but the closest place for work is Missoula which is more liberal than western WA. Only a matter of time fella’s and I’m trying to buy a few years.

I hear ya...we all have our horror stories about the WA draw.  I realized not long ago that is likely now I'll go From being a teen to dying in this state and never drawing a quality deer tag.  But man, you're moving up in the world.  Lot of good hunts ahead and a lot less BS politics.  I'm jealous.  At any rate, good luck to us all this year on the draw.

When I moved to Idaho 3 years ago I left 25 points each for Goat , Moose and Sheep. I was going to keep putting in for Washington but decided what makes me think I could draw now when I havent for 25 years.

Although I havent drawn anything in Idaho either LOL

Agree 100%, I wish we could win this state back but they will never get rid of mail in voting, the dems have cheating down and you are right, it will spread.  My wife is all over moving to Idaho, even MT if we could find the right spot.  Gonna retire next May and will be moving by two years out of Wa.  I've been looking on zillow for prob 5 years and yet to find my piece of heaven.  Grangville to priest river, Troy MT, heck, even looked at the west side of sheridan Wy but that is too far for the wife. Our daughter and son in law will stay in Orting for now, too much money to be made, that is the trap!!  Max points on quality and bull elk, 22 points for deer, max for sheep and goat, I'm sure I will be leaving it all behind, hate to leave Wa, but hate communism more.  DemoRats just don't see it.

This new law that makes it so I can no longer purchase a gun is the last straw for me. It goes into effect in 2027 so that gives me two years to get out of this state. Already retired, so only thing keeping me here now is my daughter still has one year of high school left. Montana here I come.

Four more years until my son turns 18, then we are out.  Until then, I'm climbing the walls until that time comes, and the wife is fully on board and already shopping for property.  Will likely be leaving behind 20+ points when that day comes though. :'(

Will still have friends and family here, so we can always come back for salmon and steelhead fishing...if there's any of that left to do.

What new law are you referring too? So many proposals I haven’t been able to keep up with.

I'm planning my way out as well. Considered not purchasing special apps this year...but it's relatively cheap. Can't win if you don't play. And it makes app season a little more exciting.

Congrats on the move to Idaho. My parents just bought property and will be leaving this state this fall. As for me, I'm stuck for the foreseeable future. Maybe with everyone leaving, I'll have a chance to draw something  :IBCOOL:

Smart man getting out of this state, unfortunately even with people dropping out and moving away more and more people are putting in.  NV is doing there draw right now and they had over 332K individual applications and 32K party applications this year!!!!!!

Draw odds are definitely in the toilet not only in WA but across the west.

Yep and if you don’t draw in Nevada you don’t get to hunt for the most part. It could always be worse so if you can get better take advantage of it.

The reality is that you could have 50 points for each of the big 3 and the odds are still that you would never draw a tag.... so looking at it that way, you really aren't missing out on anything.

Big 3?? I’d be happy with a deer draw in the unit I always put in for with an average draw of 9 points! 22 points later…. Have to admit, never been lucky with anything 👌

After over 60 years of applying for elk tags here I have drawn 2 times. I’m am done as the odds only get worse every year in the draw. Less an less tags to apply for and it is all about predators and protecting them. I’m sure most of you don’t even remember the years when most of western Washington was either sex tags for several weeks for deer. Where are those deer now, ate by predators.
I AM DONE AND ONLY BOUGHT A SMALL GAME LICENCE.

I think I'm in a similar situation.  Couldn't find any good info on access to places I've been hunting for decades.  A lot of land on the coast that was permit was sold.  Now can't find out what's open or not.

Unfortunately, the same thing that happened here 40 years ago is happening to the other States. The people that voted in this crap are also tired of it and are moving to other States to start ruining them with their votes.
Once the big 'progressive' cities in any State gets more votes than the rest of the State things start to change. And make no mistake, it is happening.
I remember when "Pacific Northwestern California" became a thing. The flood of 'Cali's' started coming up here in mass in the 80's. There were articles in the papers about it. They liked the "laid back easy going" lifestyle of Seattle at the time and started making changes (voting) almost immediately.
As was stated at the time by a politician, and I repeat often:
"Every vote I need I can see from the top of the Space Needle."

It has been disheartening to see the demise of Washington hunting, fishing and related items.
Cuterebra are NOT cute!

Heck even the Simpson’s did an episode on how the liberals move into a city, destroy and move on to another city.

I remember the 90’s and all you heard was the Californians moving to Washington and making the state change. Sidewalks were almost unheard of until the Californians showed up.

Good luck, these other states are slowly being invaded.

I did a PDR in Montana and ask how many Washington hunters were applying for deer and elk tags there. Guess what over 19,000 apply there and over 9,000 get draw. Hunters are trying to find a place where they might actually find an animal to hunt or bring some meat back home..sadly a lot of the Washington hunters I see are illegally hunting on private land with no permission. Montana had several set up last year trying to catch these guys trespassing and shooting at night.. they are getting pretty good with their drones and set ups..hopefully they can keep catching them..

Well my last year with 22 points, I drew my quality deer tag. I believe it’s only 1 permit. 49 degrees north mule deer buck. Get to hunt them in the rut. I’ve seen so many monsters during November hunting whitetail and now I can shoot one… I’ll take it.
