CVA Optima V2 durasight rail mod
« on: May 07, 2025, 09:45:33 AM »
So I picked up a $15 Durasight pic rail for my cva optima v2 only to realize I couldn't mount it to the rifle the way I wanted to. I decided for $15 I'd try to modify it to mount "backwards" and get it as far back (close to my eye) as possible. Out to the garage I went and with a dremel tool and small drum sander bit I got to work. Finish with some permanent marker and bolted her down. I'm probably not the first to do this but I couldn't find anything online that solved my problem so I thought I'd share.

Looks good.  I am all dialed in with mine, but if I do any mods this would be one for sure.

I didn't mention in my original post that I'm mounting a primary arms prism 1x scope that while it has fairly generous eye relief it wasn't going to work where the rail was mounted prior to modification.

Finished product. Eye relief is good and perfectly usable though probably not as ideal as it could be if you could get the eye piece to 3-4 inch mark to achieve full field of view.

Looks like same optic as well.  3 whitehots and a 300 grainer is my go to.

Sounds pretty similar to what I've been feeding it withe the old peep sight setup I had on the gun. I'm curious to see what it's capable of with a proper optic.

Any reason you went this route instead of something like the vortex crossfire?
What’s the reticle look like on the primary arms?

I haven't personally looked through the crossfire but had read from multiple sources that the reticle was rather "bulky" which was something I was trying to avoid. Plus I wanted a illuminated reticle with some built-in hold-overs. The primary arms checks both boxes.  It uses a chevron style reticle that comes to fine point and can be used for holding over. The reticle is etched and is illuminated in green or red but not both you get one or the other. In my opinion eye relief is the achilles heal of the optic. It's doable but you have to mount it at the rear on the receiver.
