Iceberg shrimp closed
« on: June 05, 2025, 12:23:11 PM »
Kind of strange as it's usually the place they open the most and longest but after seeing how many boats were going out of Coronet Bay during the opener I'm not too surprised.

Iceberg Point portion of Marine Area 7 South will be closed to recreational shrimpers on June 6-7 and will not open June 20-21

We went out Thursday afternoon for the initial opener and I've never seen Cornet Bay so packed. It was unbelievable the amount of boats/trailers parked up and down the road getting into the boat ramp  :yike:

Closing areas will force folks into other areas that will become too pressured. Smart move

Closures before the season even started got this ball rolling. I haven't even been out yet, was hoping to catch the July opener in the strait and pair it with some crabbing but my guess is it will be closed by then as well.

It's noticeably more brutal this year, Iceberg was the one bright spot that had many days open and even increased limits in the not to distant past.  I hate to see what next year holds, I wouldn't be surprised to see max pots dropped to 2 or a 40 shrimp limit.  There are just too may people that want to catch a limited resource that is easy to catch.

I was talking with the WDFW data collector , think it was 2022, anyway first year that multiple days got cut back.   She said during Covid, some many people off work, they went shrimpin almost non stop, it put a pretty hard hit on the resource, not sure if we will see all the days we used to , too many people going north now.

Moorage was full,  boats anchored.  The launch is always interesting to say the least.

Aaaand voila!....No July  opener in Area 6. I guess I'll just focus on the whole 3 days of Chinook fishing that's scheduled for the inside waters.     :(
