Has Karl even killed a Mike deer?🤔
I didn't know I was being hunted.
Many on this site don't know my name is Mike.

Lots and lots of scouting/learning. Then get ready to put on boot miles. Yes, you may “bump” into a bruiser driving up a road but it will be because HE made the mistake. It does happen from time to time. We all have seen it happen or heard of it happening. Know the animal, know the habits, know the environment. Food, water, cover. Pretend you’re being hunted and had to survive, eat, drink and stay out of the “limelight” so to speak. Good luck.

And Karl since everyone is rousing you, have a Pepsi Day!👍😆

We always called those black jacks (21). Mule deer are simply where you find em.  Hunted them for years in Utah and while many did migrate to the high country there were always those that stayed put down lower.  Some of the best mule deer hunting in this state (as well as other states) is down in the lower sage brush country. You have to get out and scout various areas and don't think for a second that all the big bucks automatically live in the high country.

We called them blackjacks too back in the day👍 I agree a little about big bucks hanging in sage brush in this state but imo some of them(not all) will do that a bit during the rut or if they are pushed by weather. There’s more big bucks that will die of old age that hang in some pretty thick and knarly timber, only to cross patches of sage to get from point A to point B, point B being even more thick and knarly crap. If there’s timber(thicker the better) available that’s where they’ll hang. Now if your in a unit that’s nothing but sage, it’s another story obviously.
