I can't say how rare.
But FS has had land set aside as a lynx recovery zone for 30 years now that I'm aware of, probably longer.
In the north half .
So.......might as well get it going.
Instead of making a recovery zone,never knowing if there are lynx.

This is actually great. Lynx are extremely susceptible to other predators, especially wolves.
Maybe the tribe can set aside an area to eliminate 50% of the wolves!!

I've never seen one in the wild, but would love to photograph them.

When I was younger we saw lynx tracks in the northeast every winter. I haven't seen much sign of them for a couple decades.The last one I physically saw in the northeast was back about 2000 to 2004ish. We are on the southern edge of their natural range so I don't expect there to ever be many, but its nice to see them in the area again.

I was gonna say pretty much same .
Seen a few,long time ago. It wasn't in the north half.
Definitely a trip, you think young cougar till you see the tail/ears.

Used to trap them in NW Montana back in the day. Kudos to the Colville Tribe for trying to reintroduce them

They have been trapping them in the Revelstoke area the last few years.  Had one head back within a couple weeks, must not have liked it here.  Cool thing is that they prefer 10–15-year-old timber cuts where the prey animals live so the radicals can't use the lynx to curtail timber harvest.

In my pretty limited understanding, you're partially right. Their food base (99% snowshoe hare) really like the early growth stuff, but they like to hunt in areas with some cover nearby (10-15 years old), then they like the thick stuff for cover and denning the rest of the time. They like a pretty blended forest, with lots of mid-growth fingers running up and through the new stuff surrounded by old patches. Either way, it's not how most of the kettle looks right now
