SWAKANE EWE
« on: June 25, 2025, 12:09:52 PM »
HELLO,    My son drew the Swakane sheep EWE tag, I've hunted this unit a number of times for deer, I know in years past I've seen most of the sheep off 97 around the dam, my question for anyone willing to answer is access?  I know we can go up Swakane canyon road and hump up and over to get to the draws where I've ran into sheep in years past, I can't remember for sure but didn't they put in a game fence all along 97 a while ago? if so is there any access points to get through the game fence off of 97?  Is there anywhere to park your rig off 97 besides on the shoulder?

thanks in advance to anyone willing to share any info they have much appreciated

An option is to access it from Burch mountain road, drop over the edge, kill your ewe and just hike it down to the bottom for a pick up. I have done this a handful of guys who have killed sheep and I pick them up along Swakane somewhere and bring them back up to Burch and their pickup.

I can get you up the hill just up 97 past the round about too but you would likely want to hike a ways and its steep so you could avoid shooting a sheep in clear view of everyone down below
