Tooth age on Quinault bull
« on: June 20, 2025, 07:18:43 AM »
Good morning.

Finally got my aging report back on bull from 2022.   Any guesses?   I will chime in with the answer after a few posts.

WAG of 8.5 years.

I was going off the antlers, after looking at the pic more I think he’s younger than 8.5, probably around the 5-6 range.

Back in the day we used to be able to hunt Subbase Bangor antlerless deer archery.
I was hunting the Annex area end of first week in Dec and shot a big antlerless deer I thought was a doe
It turned out to be a buck that had already shed
You were required to contact the base biologist for a tooth extraction and  tissue sampling
Got info back it was 16 years old

Thanks for sharing, what was your guess for age when you killed it? Were the teeth worn down to nothing?

8 or 9.   The teeth looked old, but not ground down to nothing. I have a feeling he was a bigger bull back in his prime of 7 to 9.
Having said that, thrilled to have taken him.   No regrets

The ivories on my 10.5 year old bull I killed in Wyoming were pretty flat, otherwise the teeth looked good.

Great Rossy, thanks for sharing. I've killed a half dozen bulls in that area. Was raised out there. My dad killed a bull when I was a kid that was same age. Massive bull and yes had to grind most of it. Brings me back to a different day seeing a bull taken from there. Congrats on a great bull.
