Non-Shoulder mount elk ideas
« on: June 20, 2025, 06:45:10 PM »
Anyone seen any cool ideas for elk mounts that's not shoulder mounts?
With the late season tag I drew this year (counting my chickens early i know, haha) I want to do something cool.
I have 3 deer shoulder mounts, 1 elk, and an half bear mount among a few other things and live in a standard single story rach style house, so room is an issue. I really like euros, I dont whiten mine most the time, let em have some natural rustic color.
But I love the look of the late season hides. Was thinking of just doing a euro and have the hide tanned to stretch on a wall but dont have space unless I mount things over top of it and dont want to put a bunch of holes in it.
Thought about a pack frame mount, but have not been able to find many examples using elk.
Or anyone seen a pack mount done on a more modern pack frame? Modern being relative, like my frames are all from the 80s or early 90s.
Or any other examples or ideas folks have. Something cool to do with the hide and/or euro?

:yeah:
The work looks good but not realistic imo. Deer look good on that platform. Because you could actually pack it out that way. Never carried a bull like that and never will.

I have always been a fan of pedestal mounts.  Gives more options than a wall mount.

These photo is of my zebra and Kudu, not elk, give the general idea.

you can also do a "wall pedestal".  I think they look nicer than a general flat wall mount.  it is how I had my elk mounted.  A little hard to tell but it is mounted to the wall at an angle.

Wall and floor pedestals require you retain more of the hide on the shoulder when capping out the head.

two more wall pedestals that give a better idea on how they look.

The impala on the left, and the Bushbuck on the right.
