Late Teanaway Deer Tag???
«
on:
June 28, 2009, 08:22:13 PM »
My buddy drew a late Teanaway archery tag and Im pretty darn jealous.... but then I realized I havent spent any real time over there that late in the season. Has anybody drawn this tag before? Any advice on what to expect? Weather? Animals? People? Any info to help this guy put another donkey on the wall would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

you should expect to hope you can get permission to hunt private land where the elk spend the winter.

No, he got a late mule deer tag. I guess I forgot to say that. He's also from Ellensburg and knows a few people that will let him hunt there land, but I have no idea where exactly or if its worth it.

Don't be too jealous. I drew the tag last year and only saw a couple bulls. Hunted Teanaway Ridge and Cle Elm ridge with permission. The elk just are not in there like they used to be.

Did you see many deer when you were elk hunting?

I had one of the archery deer tags 2 years ago and I ate my tag. I hunted 8 days straight and then came back for 2 more. I hunted very very hard. The problem I had was the weather did not cooperate that year. The bucks had not come all the way out of the hight country yet. I was pretty much hunting local bucks. I saw lots of deer (20-25 bucks a day) but I was looking for 160+. I might have set my standards too high.
If you have lots of snow there will be good bucks down low. If not, you can expect to get up on those south slopes and south ridges in hopes of catching early migrators.
Good luck.
