Pinks!
« on: July 29, 2025, 06:17:57 PM »
Didn't see many through Saturday, and then all the sudden they were everywhere when I was pulling pots in MA10 on Sunday.  Jigged up a few on a 7' saltwater spinning rod, so stinking fun.  Felt like I was on a Florida fishing show catching snook or something with the braid screaming off the reel.  Go get em!

And, just for the record, I grilled one that night despite 20 lbs of chinook in the fridge from Friday/Saturday (and fresh crab from Sunday).  It was fantastic!

Never done it before but where is a good place to take the kids and catch them from the bank, freshwater when they start running?

Depends were you live..  there are beaches, especially on points you can fish from shore and be very successful with simple set up.  The rivers are successful but fish quality is significantly worse and the holes get crowded.  Beaches are crazy too but a little more manageable.  Shoot me a DM

Browns point by the lighthouse with pink buzz bombs has been good for me in the past. The Puyallup river can be fun.  Those spots are both gonna be plenty busy, but I’ve always been able to fish with my kids there.

I was using little 1/2 oz. pink hootchie jigs I got from John's. Just casting to jumpers.

I've had good luck jigging with normal coho twitching jigs like you'd use in rivers.  Both with fur/feathers and hootchies.

No pinks found around the shipwreck this morning.  Slow, slow, slow.

I picked up two in Brown's Bay, we were crabbing near Shipwreck and didn't see many being caught so we went south a bit.

The fish checker at the ramp tried to convince me one was a jack chinook.

Killed a couple big pinks trolling around 85’ in 11 on sat.  They aren’t that fun to catch on a salmon set up, like reeling in a side hooked dog fish.  They’ll smoke good but the meat looks terrible compared to my 18 lb king.  This was our biggest pink
