Prop boat in the Skagit
« on: September 05, 2025, 08:19:34 PM »
Hey all, I Have a 18’ Lund pro V with a prop. Curious if the skagit is deep enough to run a prop on the lower stretches. Was thinking of launching at Gardner bar and going from there. Is bringing a prop boat into this stretch a dumb idea? I have no plan on getting on step, just trying to find some slack water for pinks and maybe a coho if we are lucky.

I am by no means an expert and have not ran that stretch myself, but I'd be real careful running up river from Gardner  I think that next corners pretty skinny headed towards Woolley.

I kind of figured that second corner up river from the launch was a no go zone.. If I can launch at Gardner and get at least a few hundred yards of deep water I would be happy. Just am not trying to launch a boat in a section that I shouldn't even be in.

I have never been in that section of the river but I have a prop boat and run the whole river from the mouth of the north fork to the I5 bridge with no concerns. The south fork also except one flat where it shallows considerably. Plenty of fish in that stretch. Viz is poor to marginal at the moment.

Ya you can easily run down with a prop - upriver from there is definitely a no go without a pump

You can run down river from Gardner and fish to the railroad bridge.  I wouldn’t go below or above Gardner or you will be replacing your lower unit.

Run all around the island with my buddy duck hunting in his 17' with 60hp prop
