Deal or no Deal? Cast Iron
« on: August 24, 2025, 02:05:47 PM »
Picked up two pieces of cast iron at a G sale friday. I like cast iron when camping some times.

Got a Griswald Handy Griddle and another unmarked pan.

$6.00 for both.

Any info?

Nah

But thanks

I am old now and thinking about all the stuff I have, so I have a rule not to buy anything I do t have definite plan to use. Trying to get my wife on board but it’s a struggle. If she passes before me I am going have to open a basket store. :chuckle:

Griswold are usually one of the more collectable and usable if I remember right. Nice find

Good find, they both look to be in good shape.

Maybe as a precaution grab some lead test swabs and wipe the insides just to be sure at some point in their past they didn't have any lead melted in them before cooking food...

The second one is a Birmingham. Not as collectable as the Gris but for $6 you made out like a bandit. Both look to be good pieces.

If she passes before me I am going have to open a basket store. :chuckle:

My Mom use to collect Native American baskets, Sand Art, and traditional Kachina Dolls.
When she passed we found out she was collecting the water tight baskets, and they were worth a butt load of money. And the Kachina Dolls and sand art were highly sought after.
We divided them up between myself and my four sisters. Did not have the heart to sell them.

Yeah I got a lot of duck decoys sitting in the attic.. I tell my wife that’s her inheritance investment, given what antique stores sell them for. :chuckle:

Great score. Griswold and Wagner are very collectible. I bought a small Wagner at a GS and after cleaning, scouring out some rust and re-seasoning with olive oil, the cooking surface is as smooth as glass.
