Had never heard about this test as I am not a bear hunter. That said I have bought a bear tag the last few years as the boy and I had a very close encounter with a bear one evening in the deer woods  :yike:. Figure if I have the tag I will never see another one  :chuckle: I had no idea this test was mandatory let alone in so many GMUs. Is this the first year it has been mandatory in Washington?

If you deer hunters have a bear tag and will be hunting in north central or north eastern WA you may want to test and print the certification. Make it part of your license package!!

Good luck and BE SAFE out there!!

I about fell off my chair when I seen they added my area to the list ....We now have a serious wolf problem ..population is growing fast and no deer ... now add a few more gizzlies to boost the population .. Crazy ! and a few more tribal hunters ...its just crazy around here lately ..

I updated the links and info.....

Quote
Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming all have grizzlies in varying numbers. If you plan to hunt black bear in northern Washington or in Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming, be safe and take the grizzly bear tests and review the Bear Identification programs. In NE Washington and in Montana you must pass their test before you can bear hunt.

MY ADVICE
Take all three tests and do the Idaho Identification program, hopefully you can avoid accidentally shooting a grizzly bear when out bear hunting. The hassles and possible fines for anyone accidentally shooting a grizzly are tremendous!

Washington Test
https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/#/login
(you will find the bear test in your profile area, click on "Mandatory Species Identification Tests")

Idaho Bear Identification Program

Montana Test

Wyoming

Good luck hunting!
