Shotgun pattern look ok?
« on: September 08, 2025, 05:44:48 PM »
New sx4 Winchester.
Full choke Carson's
Shooting 8shot.
This is about 7 shots. To me the gun shoots high left.
I tried buckshot and shots were all high left.
Does this look normal?
( I was aiming for the shoot and see sticker)

1 bead or 2?

Shotguns are commonly regulated to shoot high depending on the game they are targeting.  Few shoot 50:50.  60:40 for sporting and 70:30 for trap are common goals, but without discreet rear sights individual shooters will vary.

Setter is correct on factory POI but everyones face and shoulder are different.  If you want to know where your gun is shooting, do it 1 shot per paper off a bench at 13 yards.  That will tell you your POI.  I can't recall the math reason but 13 yards is the magic number for POI.

Its a field gun so there is no comb adjustment, what is your objective?  Using 8 shot so it is not your hunting load?

Also if you find it really is shooting high, put a bigger front bead on it and that will correct the poi lower.  Good luck

IF you were "aiming" at the sticker, you have what is called in the trap world, a 70/30 pattern,  70% above POA and 30% below.  It would make a nice trap gun!

If you are shooting a field gun, add a little to the comb and see what happens, won't take much.

Good luck

Do you keep both eyes open or squint. Left eye or right closed?

Left eye closed.
It's a sx4 and they don't come with stock shims.
I'm still learning the terms like comb
