« on: September 19, 2025, 11:04:32 AM »
I usually buy my my pass the first part of October, then it is good till the end of October the next year. so, our state will raise it to $45.00 this year on the first of October.
Guess I'll get mine now.

What a joke. Some of the discover pass areas do have nice facilities and they cost money to maintain but plenty of places I have been with Discover Pass required signs have ZERO infastructure and that chaps my arse.

When they started posting up "discover pass required" signs on the gravel pullouts on the side of the highway over here that's about when I wrote them off completely. Why do I need a pass to park my vehicle within the highway right of way which is usually like 100ft from the centerline

Exactly. A handful of years ago, Discover Pass required signs showed up in an area in the NE corner where I deer hunt. Besides a campground, there is not a square inch that isn't dirt but yet I have to have a pass to park on it? Thats a hard no for me

45 dollars is probably the cost to make a discovery pass sign

As the multitude of fees associated with outdoor recreation go up, the user demographic will reflect those that prioritize outdoor activities.  Those that don't, will likely stop or continue to not partake.

I just want to point out that the woods and hunters are not creating an expanding barrier to outdoor recreation for underprivileged groups...  WDFW did that all by themselves and continues to gaslight the issue.

"In recognition of underlying racism that discourages or threatens people of color who join in outdoor activities, WDFW will be seeking new partnerships with outdoor recreation groups focused on supporting greater inclusion of African Americans and other people of color in hunting, wildlife viewing, hiking, fishing, and camping.

WDFW is on its own path to improving diversity, equity and inclusion, and acknowledges that our internal journey has just begun."

Yup at least the Feds have to provide certain improvements before they can charge you to park.

"Before you need a parking pass on federal land in the US, a fee area must provide six specific amenities, including a permanent toilet, picnic tables, a permanent trash receptacle, developed parking, interpretive signage, and security services."

Kinda makes sense.  Upthepooper won't allow logging on most state land so someone's gotta pay more.  Think I'll stick to NF.
