2025 Mt. St. Helens success?
« on: September 21, 2025, 02:28:22 PM »
Just curious if any one has had any luck harvesting any big bulls this year in Norway Pass, Mt. Whittier, or Upper Smith Creek.

I was in 560 and 516 right near Norway. Had a good year, finding the few elk that are there. Not sure what’s going on but I know hikers saw a lot of elk up Norway near bear pass or bear something lol

I know of a Norway Pass and a Mudflow archery tag holder. Neither of them tagged out.

I hiked up to Norway Pass and Mt. Margaret yesterday and saw an Elk carcass about 2.5 miles in.
After the 3 mile point I saw multiple bulls that were very hot! They were screaming mid day and it was pushing
80 Degrees. What a beautiful area. Lots of goats also.

Tagging in to see how the Upper Smith Creek tag holder did. I had that tag last year and was successful. Nothing like having a whole elk area to yourself for a week.

I am not surprised.  I was up there a few times looking and didn't see any elk. I was shocked! A lot of work going on there, and a lot of logging above the flow. Seemed like a really strange year for the mudflow area.

I know of one tag that was filled in the mudflow. But I'm pretty sure it was way down stream, low in the flow.

Gotcha....I'll be in the Toutle unit.  Here's hoping for a good hunt for both of us!

Here is my 2025 Archery mudflow bull. I know one other guy with the tag and he tagged out on the last day and I seen pictures of another bull killed opening morning. It was a pretty tough hunt we did see a lot of bulls but they were not very vocal. We chased a few bugles in the first few days but they would go silent as soon as we got in tight. Ended up glassing this bull up on the mudflow in the evening and the next morning went and got him to bugle in a small alder patch and chased him around all day till he let us get close.

Family member had the Norway Pass rifle tag. He tagged out on a 270ish inch 5x5 opening morning. Lots of elk, they where bugling like crazy. Tried to call in a 7x8 but he wasn't leaving his cows that where in the Loowit.
