Great pic!

Unusual colored animals are extra interesting.

I've seen two odd colored elk in my lifetime.  One was an all black cow in Idaho about 40 years ago and the other was a platinum blonde bull that I shot in British Columbia in the same decade.  The bull was so old that his remaining teeth were worn to the gums, and I assumed that he was somehow bleached out with age.  The hair on his neck was the same platinum blonde color and same short length as over the rest of his body.

In addition, four years ago there was a copper tinted young bull on the West End of the Olympic Peninsula.  He was a normal looking elk except that he was shaded toward a copper red hue.

Very cool. I saw one similar in 1779 in Oregon and I saw a pepper colored cow 25 years ago.

Years ago I saw an completely black cow. When I first saw it I thought it was a domestic cow until it came out of the brush. Watched it for thirty minutes with a cow permit in my pocket. Eventually decided to let it live.

We have that cow, another cow that will be 1.5yr old this summer, and two that should be legal bulls since they were spikes last year all within a 6 mile area. I' let the one go in this photo and another the year before with my bow but being on private in gun season they get killed quick. I'd like to shoot a mature one so one day maybe one makes it

Some good looking elk.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
