Quality tag
« on: October 10, 2025, 05:59:19 PM »
So this year I was fortunate enough to draw a quality tag for nov 10-16 only thing is that the quality tag for the gmu is currently closed due to ongoing fire. What would you guys do in this situation? Maybe it’ll open back up by then but who knows how bad the area is burnt.

Yeah fires can impact these hunts in a big way.   It may open but who knows how the habitat will be.  Could be a great hunt or a total dud.  Or it could be closed down with not much terrian to hunt.  Tough, tough decision to make for sure.

I hunted elk in a burn after they opened the area up same year... Elk were everywhere and would leave a cloud of ash when you spooked a herd... Deer were scattered all over it... Amazed me... Good luck...
I love you... I really do...

THIS is why they are referred to as the Forest Circus......Bad management!
They use fire money to do other chores when they should be using fire money to put out fires. ALL the work done on shady/25/tommy/LW/etc was miles and miles from Pomas, and statistically/realistically it would NEVER get that far, way too much rock bordering pomas.

Thanks for input. Wanted to see if any of you guys went through this before. I’m weighing my options of hoping it’ll open back up and be able to hunt otherwise i was gonna contact wdfw and return tag/get points back. It looks like i have up to 2 weeks before opening to return in cases like this.

Personally if any portion of the unit is accessible I'd keep the tag
You don't need allot of country to kill a good deer. Early snow.. could be a banner year.
And the chances of getting the tag again are slim to none.

Yes you are right now I think they are rebuilding part of shady pass road I don’t want to visit those areas anymore even with a shack at 23.5 miles up the Entiat it’s just destroyed

How'd your hunt turn out?
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
